1. Who we are

MealPantry ("we", "us", "our") is an Australian mobile application that helps users plan weekly meals around supermarket specials. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• Phone number — used for account creation and OTP login. We do not share this with third parties.
• Cuisine and dietary preferences — stored locally and on our servers to personalise your meal plan.
• Location (approximate postcode) — used to identify nearby supermarkets and surface relevant catalogue specials. We never store precise GPS coordinates.
• Pantry items — ingredients you carry over week to week, stored securely to build your next plan.
• Usage data — anonymised analytics (screens visited, features used) to improve the app. No personally identifiable information is included.

3. How we use your information

• To generate personalised weekly meal plans and shopping lists
• To authenticate your account via OTP
• To remember your pantry items between sessions
• To process subscription payments (handled by Apple App Store / Google Play — we never see your card details)
• To send you product updates if you opt in (you can opt out at any time)

4. Supermarket data

MealPantry uses publicly available weekly catalogue and special-offer information from Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, and IGA. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of these retailers. Prices shown are sourced from public catalogues and may not reflect in-store pricing at the time of your shop.

5. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data with:

• Payment processors — Apple and Google handle all subscription billing. We receive only confirmation of payment status.
• Cloud infrastructure providers — we use reputable providers to host our servers, under strict data processing agreements.
• Legal obligations — if required by Australian law or a court order.

6. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

The Personal Grocery Inflation Index stores dated planned-basket items, quantities and totals against a random household key held in your browser. It does not require your name or email. Using “Permanently delete my basket history” on that page immediately removes all server snapshots for that key and clears the key from the browser. This browser-only history is separate from MealPantry app account data.

7. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data (in-app: Settings → Delete Account)
• Opt out of marketing communications at any time

8. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest) to protect your data. OTP codes expire after 5 minutes and are single-use. We conduct regular security reviews.

9. Children

MealPantry is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
